Eccellente!

Before I had a definite plan for my round the world trip, I applied to be a volunteer at the London Olympics.  There’s two sorts of volunteers; “Ambassadors”, who have a public-facing meet-and-greet type role, and “Gamesmakers” who do everything else needed behind the scenes.  I applied for both.  For the Gamesmaker application I had to tell them what skills I had (legal skills was on there so I had visions of having a bit of a busman’s holiday and ending up in an office somewhere looking at contracts).  For the Ambassador application I had to answer questions about why I love London.

I still haven’t heard about the Gamesmaker role, but I’ve been invited to an Ambassador selection event in a couple of weeks, which of course I cannot attend because I will be in Tokyo.  So I’ll never know if I would have been deemed worthy to don the ambassadorial tracksuit.  It’s a bit of a shame because I was quite keen to volunteer, but even though I will be back in the country for the Olympics and Paralympics, I won’t be available to attend the training sessions beforehand so I can’t participate.  It’s also a shame that I will miss out on the biggest perk of being an Ambassador…

All this talk of ambassadors has meant that I’ve now got the song “Bad Ambassador” by the Divine Comedy stuck in my head.  I’m going to a Divine Comedy gig next week.  Fab song, and if anything, even fabber video:
